Dr. Lisa M. Athwal is a graduate of New Jersey Medical School, located in Newark. She was raised in Toms River, and is excited to join her father, Barinder Athwal, MD and uncle, Harjit Athwal, MD in practice.

She is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and her areas of interest include management of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, dry eye, and cataracts.

Dr. Athwal completed her residency in ophthalmology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. During her training, she rotated at the University Hospital in Newark, the East Orange VA Hospital, and Jersey City Medical Center. The experience allowed her to treat a diverse group of patients with a wide range of eye pathologies. Her surgical experience includes cataract and glaucoma surgeries, retinal and glaucoma lasers, and injections for macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease, in addition to corneal and oculoplastic procedures.

During her training, Dr. Lisa M. Athwal presented ophthalmology research projects at national meetings and coauthored a research paper on pediatric infectious endophtalmitis. She also participated in local and international volunteer work to provide free eye exams to patients in need. Now that she has returned to her hometown, she hopes to make a positive contribution to the community she loves.
